چکیده

Contrary to common assumptions in the literature, the blur kernel corresponding to lens-effect blur has been demonstrated to be spatially-varying across the image plane. Existing models for the corresponding point spread function (PSF) are either parameterized and spatially-invariant, or spatially-varying but ad-hoc and discretelydefined. In this paper, we develop and present a novel, spatially-varying, parameterized PSF model that accounts for Seidel aberrations and defocus in an imaging system. We also demonstrate that the parameters of this model can easily be determined from a set of discretely-defined PSF observations, and that the model accurately describes the spatial variation of the PSF from a test camera.

Parameterized modeling of spatially varying optical blur

Optical blur due to lens aberrations and defocus has been demonstrated in some cases to be spatially varying across the image plane. However, existing models in the literature for the point-spread function (PSF) corresponding to this blur are either parameterized and spatially invariant or spatially varying but ad-hoc and discretely defined. A parameterized model is developed and presented for ...

Angular motion point spread function model considering aberrations and defocus effects.

When motion blur is considered, the optics point spread function (PSF) is conventionally assumed to be fixed, and therefore cascading of the motion optical transfer function (OTF) with the optics OTF is allowed. However, in angular motion conditions, the image is distorted by space-variant effects of wavefront aberrations, defocus, and motion blur. The proposed model considers these effects and...

Monochromatic aberrations provide an odd-error cue to focus direction.

Monochromatic aberrations that exist in the human eye will cause differences in the appearance of the point-spread function (PSF) depending on whether there is positive or negative defocus. We establish whether it is possible to use these differences in the PSF to distinguish the direction of defocus. The monochromatic aberrations of eight subjects were measured with a Hartmann-Shack wave-front...

Determining the accommodative response from wavefront aberrations.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate some of the methods used to calculate objective refractions from wavefront aberrations, to determine their applicability for accommodation research. A wavefront analyzer was used to measure the ocular aberrations of 13 emmetropes and 17 myopes at distance, and 4 near target vergences: 2, 3, 4, and 5 D. The accommodative response was calculated using the...

Telescope Optics and Weak Lensing: PSF Patterns due to Low Order Aberrations

In weak lensing investigations, galaxy shapes are corrected for the convolution by the point spread function (PSF) using stellar images. In this paper we use physical models of the telescope optics to understand the spatial variation of the PSF in the image plane. We introduce a set of parameters to model the key aberrations, which include defocus, focal plane tilt, primary and off-axis astigma...
